When soap, shampoo, conditioner, tissues, and so on find their resting place on the bathroom windowsill and across the back of the toilet, the place always looks unkempt and is impossible to clean. I got rid of a bunch of creams, powders, and bubble baths I never used and put the rest of the things on a shower caddy which had a holder for washcloths built in.
By the way, I quit saving silvers of soap. I do not compress them together for future use. I do not squeeze them into a liquid-soap dispenser with water to substitute for liquid soap. I do not put them into a pocket in a sponge forĀ bathing experience. When a new bar of soap comes in, silvers slither into the trash can. The few pennies saved are not worth the aggravation. Now I have a bar of soap for a tub and a liquid-sopa dispenser for the sink. The windowsill thing on the back of the toilet. makes wipe-up easy, and looks great.
Bare is beautiful-at least in the bathroom. life was beginning to get easier and more than pleasant.

I had a wire shoe holder, but I did not really have the patience to lean over to into the closet and deposit each in its place. Besides, I had more shoes than holders, and the extras just lay on top of those shoes that were on holders, The open bottom collected dust like mad. Solution: chuck the shoe holder and get a lovely beige-and-blue corrugated cardboard holder that wouldn’t get dust under it and on top of which extra shoes could sit nicely in their boxes. I didn’t have to lean into the back of the closet to wrestle the shoes onto holders, I also got a matching shelf organizer for purses. friends, life was beginning to improve. Little things mean a lot.

Florida houses are small. Most have no basement or attic and in many cases, no garage. Though my house was sturdily made to stand up to hurricanes, it had very little storage room. For years, even after I had turned the corner on messiness, I was, like Joseph the duck, unwilling to face the facts about how hard things were for me because I lacked storage area. I kept trying to live in an overcrowded house [ my husband and I both use our house for an office ] by packing things in closer, tighter, and more efficiency. Finally, I faced facts and got a ten-by-ten shed. It was absolutely necessary if I were going to stop clunking around the lake the hard way and start swimming efficiently in my house.
